Following Keir Starmer's resignation and Andy Burnham becoming Prime Minister, a new Cabinet has been appointed. Below is the line-up as announced, with the roles that most directly affect your household finances highlighted in green. • Chancellor of the Exchequer — John Healey. Runs the Treasury and sets tax and spending policy. The Budget is his to deliver. See our profile of the new Chancellor.
• Chief Secretary to the Treasury — Emma Reynolds. The Chancellor's deputy on spending, controlling departmental budgets.
• Work and Pensions — Pat McFadden. Responsible for the State Pension, Universal Credit and other benefits.
• Energy Security and Net Zero — Miatta Fahnbulleh. Oversees the energy brief — directly relevant to bills, including the new VAT cut on electricity.
• Housing — Angela Rayner. Housing supply and planning, which feed into house prices and rents.
• Business and Trade — Jonathan Reynolds. Business rates, employment rules and trade — relevant if you're self-employed or run a small business.
